Today was one of my favorite days of the school year! Miss Jan from Gorman Nature Center visited with each class for 45 minutes of educational fun. Our class thouroughly enjoyed our visit from Miss Jan at Gorman Nature Center. She brought two visitors from the center. One was a reptile whose name is very easy to remember. The first name is his color, second is what she eats, and third is what she is; a Black Rat Snake! Children had the option to hold her if they wished. Jan asked children to think about what may be in the boxes before she brought each creature out by offering clues. We learned that the Black Rat Snake has scales, can climb trees, eats mice and insects, sheds it’s skin , and smells with her tongue. The second was a red-phased Eastern Screech Owl. The children were able to pet him and ask questions. I was really impressed with all of the questions they asked. They did a great job with displaying the IB learning trait of inquirer! Miss Jan said children can see these creatures and many more at Gorman Nature Center!. Since Mrs. Bishop took pictures in the morning class, most of those pictures will be posted on the Discovery Facebook page. I’ll let you know as soon as she has them posted!
